About Lane Harder
Lane Harder is a composer and teacher currently on faculty at The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He also serves on faculty and as Program Coordinator for the European American Musical Alliance Summer Composition Program in Paris, France. His major studies in composition, counterpoint, harmony, and analysis in the tradition of Nadia Boulanger have been with Dr. Philip Lasser of The Juilliard School.
As a composer, Professor Harder has received awards from ASCAP, NACUSA, PAS, Voices of Change, TMTA, and The Florence Gould Foundation. Recent performances have been by The Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra of New York, flutist April Clayton, soprano Carolyn Pelley, Peabody Opera Theatre, and percussion ensembles of Indiana University, Arizona State University, Rutgers University, University of Kansas, University of Houston, Southern Methodist University, Brigham Young University, McGill University, and the University of North Texas.
His music is published by KPP and recorded on Gasparo Records. Selections of his music can be heard and purchased from Rassel Editions.
Professor Harder recently had a performance and recording of his Prelude and Double Fugue for orchestral winds and percussion produced by Ravel Virtual Studios. The interview presented here includes his reflections on his personal experience, as well as his thoughts on the value of Ravel Virtual Studios as a composition and orchestration tool within the classroom.
